Our client is a Jakarta-based international engineering company established in 2020, specializing in EPC construction, environmental protection, and energy-saving technology. As a branch of a Chinese firm, they focus on power plants, waste-to-energy, and industrial infrastructure. Their core business & services imply Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC): Focusing on industrial park systems, steam power plants, and Combined Cycle Power Plants (CCPP).

Environmental Protection: Providing waste-to-energy, sewage sludge treatment, exhaust gas treatment, and environmental remediation.

Industrial Infrastructure: Developing comprehensive energy utilization and waste management solutions.

Role Overview 

We are hiring a Data Center Project Director who must oversee the full lifecycle from feasibility and design through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover, while controlling cost, schedule, risk, quality, safety and stakeholder relationships.

We are looking for a senior Project Director to establish and grow new Data Center business unit in Indonesia.

The role combines strategic business development, client relationship management, EPC project leadership, commercial management, technical oversight, and team building. The successful candidate will help our client develop market opportunities, win Data Center projects, and lead end-to-end delivery from design through procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.

The Project Director is will be the highest project-level leader. For a Data Center EPC project, the Project

Director is responsible for ensuring that the entire delivery chain works as one integrated system:

The role should be designed around five major goals. Because our client is building a new Data

Center business, the Project Director should be both a senior project leader and a business-building leader.

We are therefore looking for someone with strong Data Center industry relationships and market knowledge, not only someone with construction experience.

The ideal candidate is not simply an experienced construction Project Manager but mostly a senior Data Center leader who combines Data Center EPC delivery + commercial capability + industry network + business development + team-building ability.

Candidates may come from major EPC/GC/PMC companies, Data Center developers/operators, engineering consultancies, or mission-critical MEP organizations.Main Objective: Establish our client as a credible Data Center EPC player in Indonesia by developing the market, winning strategic projects, building the right organization, and delivering projects safely, on time, within budget, to the required quality and profitability.

Win & Deliver Data Center Projects

This is particularly important because our client is entering and building a new Data Center business.

The Project Director should not simply wait until our client wins a project. They should actively understand and develop the market.

  1. Who is building Data Centers in Indonesia?
  2. Who are the key Data Center developers and owners?
  3. Who are the hyperscalers and major operators?
  4. Which engineering consultants and project management firms are involved?
  5. Who are the main EPC, GC, MEP and specialist contractors?
  6. What Data Center projects are expected over the next 1–3 years?
  7. What capabilities, certifications, partnerships and talent does our client need to win these projects?

Core Mission:

  1. Build our client’s Data Center business unit and establish a strong market position in Indonesia.
  2. Develop strategic relationships with Data Center owners, developers, consultants, contractors, technology partners, and key industry stakeholders.
  3. Identify, develop, and support the winning of new Data Center EPC opportunities.
  4. Lead successful project execution while achieving schedule, cost, quality, safety, and profitability objectives.
  5. Build the organization, systems, and talent pipeline required for our client’s Data Center business.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Data Center Business Development
  • Identify Data Center projects, developers, owners, investors, and market opportunities in Indonesia.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Data Center owners, operators, developers, consultants, and major contractors.
  • Support market strategy, tender strategy, proposals, client presentations, and commercial negotiations.
  • Develop a sustainable Data Center project pipeline for our client
  • Represent our client in industry events, client meetings, technical discussions, and strategic partnerships.
  • Data Center Business Development
  1. Lead projects from pre-construction and design through procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
  2. Establish project strategy, execution plans, schedules, budgets, governance, and reporting systems.
  3. Coordinate design, procurement, construction, MEP, commissioning, and subcontractor teams.
  4. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality and safety standards.
  5. Own major project decisions, escalation management, recovery plans, and client communication.
  6. Technical & Data Center Oversight
  • Provide senior oversight of critical Data Center infrastructure including electrical systems, UPS, generators, switchgear, cooling/HVAC, BMS, fire protection, and ELV/ICT systems.
  • Review engineering designs, specifications, construction methodologies, and technical proposals.
  • Ensure commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and operational readiness are successfully achieved.
  • Commercial & Cost Management
  • Oversee project budgets, cost estimates, procurement, contracts, variations, claims, and commercial risks.
  • Protect project profitability and ensure financial performance meets approved targets.
  • Work closely with procurement and commercial teams to optimize cost and delivery strategy.
  • Team & Organization Building
  • Build and lead a dedicated Data Center project organization.
  • Recruit and develop Project Managers, Engineering Managers, Design Managers, Cost Estimators, Construction Managers, Planning, QA/QC, HSE, and Commissioning personnel.
  • Establish project management standards, workflows, and best practices for the new business line.

Key Qualifications & Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in EPC, PMC, construction, engineering, project management, or related industries.
  • Strong Data Center project experience is highly preferred; mission-critical infrastructure experience is a major advantage.
  • Proven experience as Project Director, Project Manager, Engineering Director, Program Director, or equivalent senior role.
  • Strong understanding of Data Center MEP and critical power infrastructure.
  • Experience with hyperscale, colocation, or large-scale Data Center projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong network among Data Center owners, developers, consultants, EPC contractors, MEP contractors and industry partners in Indonesia.
  • Strong commercial, contract, negotiation, and business development capabilities.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to build a new business team from the ground up.
  • Good understanding of project controls, planning, cost management, procurement, risk, and quality management.
  • Professional English communication is required; Mandarin capability is a distinctive advantage.
