About Our Client

Our client is a fast-growing fintech startup based in Singapore, specializing in an online platform for buying and selling gold and silver. With additional branches in Hong Kong and Dubai, the company caters to investors and collectors seeking secure, transparent, and convenient precious metals trading.

The company differentiates itself through Realtime pricing, insured storage solutions, and seamless digital transactions, targeting both retail and institutional clients. Our client has quickly expanded across Asia and the Middle East, capitalizing on growing demand for alternative investments.

Backed by a tech driven approach, it integrates blockchain verification for asset authenticity and offers flexible liquidation options. Its user-friendly platform appeals to millennial investors and high net worth individuals looking for inflation hedged assets.  With a strong presence in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Dubai, our client leverages tax-efficient jurisdictions and strategic partnerships with vaulting providers. The startup is positioned as a modern alternative to traditional bullion dealers, combining fintech innovation with commodity trading expertise.

Its rapid growth reflects increasing interest in digital gold platforms, especially in volatile economic climates. The company plans further expansion into Europe and Southeast Asia, reinforcing its mission to make precious metals investing accessible, secure, and efficient.

Role Overview

This is not a standard portfolio accounting role. We trade, vault, and transport physical assets. You will be responsible for the financial integrity of a business that moves high value, volatile inventory across multiple jurisdictions.

You will own the group’s accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and treasury operations. You must be comfortable reconciling physical stock (gold/silver bars) to digital ledger entries, navigating multicurrency volatility (XAU/USD/SGD/AED), and ensuring compliance with FRS 102 / IFRS as it applies to inventory and revenue recognition.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting

Lead the preparation of the Group’s consolidated financial statements in compliance with IFRS (or SFRS(I)).

Technical expert on complex accounting treatments specific to the business:

Inventory (FRS 102 / IAS 2): Valuation of physical gold and silver at lower of cost or NRV; accounting for consignment stock and metal held under location swaps.

Revenue Recognition (IFRS 15): Principal vs. Agent assessment for the trading platform and custody fees.

Financial Instruments (IFRS 9): Hedge accounting for commodity price risk and FX exposure.

Manage the external audit process with Big 4 firms, ensuring clean opinions and timely filings with ACRA.

2. Physical Inventory & Supply Chain Finance

Crucial: Oversee the reconciliation of physical bullion holdings (vaulted in Singapore and Dubai) against platform liabilities and client entitlements.

Implement and monitor controls over the movement of physical metal, including purchase/settlement, vault transfers, and sales.

Oversee trade finance operations, including the accounting for letters of credit (LCs), trust receipts, and inventory financing facilities.

3. Internal Controls & Governance

Design, implement, and monitor a robust internal control framework suitable for a MAS regulated Fintech with physical asset exposure.

Ensure segregation of duties between trade execution, settlement, and vault reconciliation.

Lead the finance workstream for any future fundraising, due diligence exercises, or IPO readiness initiatives.

4. Treasury & Cash Management

Oversee daily treasury operations, ensuring optimal liquidity for trading desks and operational expenses.

Manage multicurrency cash flows (SGD, USD, AED) and hedging strategies in collaboration with the CFO and trading heads.

Administer bank relationships, trading limits, and facility agreements.

5. Tax & Compliance

Oversee the preparation and filing of corporate tax, GST (Singapore), and VAT (UAE) returns.

Manage transfer pricing documentation for intercompany transactions between the Singapore and Dubai entities.

Liaise with tax agents and advisors on withholding tax obligations for crossborder service fees and interest.

6. Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop a growing finance team.

Drive automation and system improvements within the finance function (ERP implementation/optimization).

 Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

Qualification: Chartered Accountant (CA Singapore, CPA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent).

Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience, with a mix of Big 4 audit (Senior Manager/Manager level) and inhouse commercial experience.

Industry Knowledge:

Non-Negotiable: Good experience in the commodities / precious metals trading sector.

You must understand “Allocated” vs. “Unallocated” metal accounting.

You must have worked with physical inventory reconciliation, not just derivatives.

Systems: Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Power BI is a must, NetSuite, SAP, or Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced Excel (power query, complex modelling).

Regional: Experience with Singapore tax/regulations; exposure to Dubai/UAE finance is a strong advantage.

Desirable:

Experience in a Fintech or high growth technology environment (familiarity with subscription revenue, digital wallets, or payment gateways).

Experience with IPO preparation or SPAC listing processes.

Knowledge of Power BI or other data visualization tools for management reporting.

Competencies

Rigor and Attention to detail: Zero tolerance for reconciliation gaps. You sleep better when the books are balanced to the gram.

Commercial Curiosity: You don’t just record the trade; you understand why the trade was done.

Stakeholder Management: Ability to explain complex technical accounting issues to nonfinance stakeholders (Traders, Product Managers, Engineers).

Resilience: Ability to thrive in a fast paced, high-volume trading environment with month end deadlines.

 What We Offer

Impact: Direct ownership of the financial integrity of a leading physical asset Fintech.

Global Exposure: Work with teams in Singapore and Dubai, interacting with international bullion banks and vault operators.

Compensation: Highly competitive package (commensurate with experience) + performance bonus + equity eligibility.

 Location: Based in Singapore.

Our client is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
